Versace Seems a Good Fit in Prada's Portfolio, But Revamp Will Take Time -- Market Talk

1448 GMT - Versace fits in Prada's portfolio because it complements its new owner's aesthetics well, Bernstein analyst Luca Solca says. The Italian luxury firm agreed to buy the Versace brand, known for its loud and bold designs, from U.S. group Capri Holdings in a $1.4 billion deal. Versace's loud aesthetics contrast with the more minimalist designs of the Prada brand. "Having said that, dusting off and reinventing the brand will require much time and effort," Solca adds. Capri has been seeking to turn Versace around as the label has struggled with sales declines and operating losses. (andrea.figueras@wsj.com)
