Mounting Tariffs Increase Reluctance Among LNG Buyers in China -- Market Talk

1035 GMT - Escalating trade tensions between Washington and Beijing are making U.S. LNG even less attractive for Chinese buyers, likely leading to a significant reduction in shipments despite pre-existing agreements. "The mounting duties have reinforced buyer reluctance in China, where importers are unwilling to take U.S. LNG cargoes subject to tariffs," analysts at Kpler say. "LNG cargoes are expected to remain absent from China, even under existing long-term contracts." China has about 3.3 million tons a year of U.S. LNG contracted under long-term deals, out of around 75 million tons a year in total long-term commitments, according to the data provider.
