St Barbara (ASX:SBM) received "positive" community support during a public hearing on the proposed early renewal of the Simberi mining lease, conducted by the chief warden of the Papua New Guinea Mineral Resources Authority on Tuesday, according to a Friday filing with the Australian bourse.
The community attended the hearing with an estimated 150 people, the filing said.
The chief warden will report the hearing findings to the Mining Advisory Council, which will consider the application and the report, making a recommendation to the mining minister, per the filing.
Shares rose nearly 5% in morning trade Friday.
