1717 ET - United Airlines is relying on its loyalty program to stay resilient through a potential economic downturn, it said in its earnings report. The airline said revenue from its premium-cabin seating rose 9.2% in the first quarter despite what it called a challenging macroeconomic environment. That was compared with 7% to 8% growth in business and basic-economy revenue. Focusing on brand loyalty has been United's strategy since Covid, it said, and it intends to continue accelerating investments there. "United believes our proven ability to win brand-loyal customers is a competitive advantage and will make United resilient in any economic environment," it said. Shares rise 5.9% in late trading.
