Malaysia's Economy Likely Expanded 4.8% in 1Q, Poll Shows -- Market Talk

0302 GMT - Malaysia's economy likely grew 4.8% on year in 1Q, according to the median estimate of seven economists polled by The Wall Street Journal. Growth was likely driven by strong export-oriented manufacturing due partly to front-loaded shipments ahead of potential U.S. tariffs and a global tech rebound, DBS economists Taimur Baig and Mo Ji say in a note. Steady services growth, underpinned by household spending, and a construction boost from ongoing private and public projects also contributed, they add. However, sluggish mining and quarrying activity likely weighed on overall performance, DBS adds. The 1Q advance GDP data are due Friday. (yingxian.wong@wsj.com)
