Advanced Micro Devices expects a hefty financial hit from new U.S. controls on AI chip exports to China, saying it could book charges of up to $800 million.

Export restrictions applied to its MI308 chips could trigger charges in inventory, purchase commitments and related reserves, it said.

Late Tuesday, rival Nvidia warned it could take $5.5 billion of charges due to equivalent curbs on its H20 processors.

AMD said it plans to apply for export licenses but cautioned "there is no assurance that licenses will be granted."
