Uber (UBER) in partnership with Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) backed Waymo began allowing Atlanta customers to join a waitlist for Waymo's driverless taxi service, multiple outlets reported Tuesday, citing company statements.

Initially, the robotaxi service will cover about 65 square miles, including downtown, Buckhead, and Capitol View, with further expansion expected, multiple outlets reported.

Bloomberg News reported Avomo, Uber's partner and fleet operator, plans to establish a nearly 100,000-square-foot operational facility north of Atlanta's downtown.

Uber and Waymo jointly announced the robotaxi collaboration last September, launching first in Austin earlier this year, the news outlets added.

Waymo reportedly provides autonomous technology and vehicle operations oversight, while Uber manages maintenance, cleaning, charging, and customer access via its app.

The service will exclusively feature Waymo's autonomous Jaguar I-PACE vehicles, the media outlets reported.

Uber and Waymo did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
