The European Union is considering ways to help US liquefied natural gas exporters comply with its methane emissions rules as part of efforts to prevent a potential trade conflict with President Donald Trump, Reuters reported Monday, citing unnamed sources.
The European Commission is exploring options to recognize US methane regulations as "equivalent" under EU law, which would allow American LNG shipments to automatically meet EU requirements.
When asked by Reuters, a Commission spokesperson said it "has an ongoing dialogue with industry on all relevant matters related to our legislation."
The European Commission did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
