Market Chatter: India Mulls Zero Import Duty on High-End Motorcycles to Seal Better Deal With US

India is looking to remove import duties on motorcycles with 750cc and above engines, including Harley-Davidson (HOG), as it tries to strike a better trade deal with President Donald Trump, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing people close to the matter.

The current import duty for motorcycles up to 1600cc is around 40%, according to the report. Considering low demand for high-end motorbikes in the country, the local industry would be able to absorb the effects of the proposed concession, Bloomberg said.

India is also mulling a zero-for-zero tariff policy with the US for auto parts industry, according to the people.

Trump had announced 26% reciprocal tariffs on India on April 2, which were later paused for 90 days.

India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
