Asean Among Most Affected by Trump's April Tariffs, IMF Says -- Market Talk

0415 GMT - The Asean group of countries has been among the most affected by the Trump administration's announcement of sweeping tariffs in April, IMF says in its latest report. For U.S. trading partners, "tariffs are mostly a negative demand shock" which drive away foreign customers even though some could benefit from trade diversion, it says. After a marked slowdown in 2024, growth in Asia's emerging and developing economics is set to shrink further to 4.5% in 2025 and 4.6% in 2026, the IMF says. India's growth outlook is relatively more stable, supported by private consumption, but IMF cuts its 2025 growth forecast to 6.2% from 6.5% amid rising trade tensions. (kimberley.kao@wsj.com)
