Hong Kong's unemployment rate stayed at 3.2% in the January-March period compared with the December 2024 to February 2025 period, the city's census and statistics department said Tuesday.

Unemployment in the information and communications, social work, and professional and business services sectors increased, the department said.

The transport and insurance sectors saw decreased unemployment, Labor and Welfare Secretary Chris Sun said.

Underemployment also stayed at 1.1% during the three-month period ending in March.

Total employment rose by 11,100 to 122,800 in the January-March period from 111,700 in the December 2024 to February 2025 period.

The number of underemployed individuals jumped by 2,000 to 42,700 from 40,700, the department said.

Meanwhile, tariff wars could affect employment sentiment in a number of sectors, Sun said in a statement.
