Rohm (TYO:6963) has developed a silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor module that it says is 50% more energy-efficient than rival products, Nikkei reported Thursday.

The compact module, which integrates up to six chips, is designed for use in EV onboard chargers and charging stations, the report said.

The module cuts surface area and weight, enhancing efficiency and performance. Two overseas firms have adopted the device, with front-end production in Japan and assembly in Thailand, according to the report.

Rohm has been expanding its SiC lineup for EVs, including a 2024 e-axle module supplied to Valeo, the report said.
