U.S. Natural Gas Futures Extend Weekly Losses -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
04-26

1523 ET - U.S. natural gas futures extend their slide to four weeks with demand not expected to pick up until hotter summer weather arrives to drive up electricity-sector use. "While weather patterns are quite bearish through May 10 and have been negatively weighing on prices, the expectation is this summer will be hotter than normal over vast stretches of the U.S. for stronger than normal demand," NatGasWeather.com says in a note. Meanwhile, "we expect U.S. production could underperform if natural gas prices continue lower, thereby tightening the supply/demand balance in time," the forecaster adds. Nymex natural gas settles up 0.2% at $2.937/mmBtu and is down 9.5% from a week ago. (anthony.harrup@wsj.com)
