Market Chatter: Air China, Xiamen Airlines Return Boeing Jets Amid Tariff War

Air China (SHA:601111, HKG:0753) and Xiamen Airlines have returned three Boeing 737 Max jets following China's 125% tariff on US imports, YiCai Global reported April 25.

One jet meant for Air China flew back to Seattle, while Xiamen Airlines returned two last week, according to the report.

Boeing, which already delivered 20 aircraft this year, had planned 29 more deliveries by the end of 2025. However, analysts said the tariffs make this uncertain, YiCai Global wrote.

Airlines may delay expansions or seek alternatives to deal with the 125% tariff on imported aircraft, the report cited aviation expert Lin Zhijie, who added that China's aviation market has excess capacity.
