Kobe Steel (TYO:5406) said the Osaka High Court has dismissed an appeal filed against the company and its subsidiary, Kobelco Power Kobe No. 2, according to a Thursday filing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The appeal challenged the Kobe District Court's March 2023 ruling that dismissed claims raised by local residents against the construction of the Kobe Power Plant's No. 3 and No. 4 units.
The lawsuit sought to halt the plant's operation, citing environmental concerns from those living near the site.
The appeal, filed by 34 local residents, sought to rescind the lower court's decision and order the shutdown of the power plant.
