Malaysian Shares Snap Winning Streak on Profit-Taking Activities; Nestle (Malaysia) Climbs 5%

Malaysian shares ended in red on Tuesday, snapping gains of the previous four sessions, on profit-taking activities.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, the main gauge of Malaysian stocks, shed 6.03 points, to end 0.40% lower at 1,515.56. The day range was between 1,515.56 and 1,524.50.

In economic news, Malaysia's inflation rose softly at 1.8% in 2024 versus 2.5% in 2023. The index edged up annually to 132.8 in 2024 from 130.4, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said.

In corporate news, shares of Nestle (Malaysia) (KLSE:NESTLE) jumped about 5% after its profit attributable to owners plunged to 161.3 million ringgit in the first quarter from 195.5 million ringgit a year earlier.

Shares of Handal Energy (KLSE:HANDAL) plunged 10% after William H. Van Vliet III resigned as the chief executive officer of the company on Monday.

Shares of Malaysia's stock exchange operator, Bursa Malaysia (KLSE:BURSA) closed over 1% lower after its profit attributable to owners dropped to 68.4 million ringgit in the first quarter, from 75 million ringgit a year earlier.
