1754 ET - Mondelez CEO Dirk Van de Put says that sharply lower consumer confidence in the U.S. is taking a toll on snack sales. Van de Put says that inflation fears and slowing incomes are pressuring purchases, with consumers searching for value and prioritizing more essentials. He says lower-income consumers are shifting to smaller pack sizes, while those with higher incomes are moving to larger packs. Demand for biscuits is particularly soft, Van de Put says, though they are faring better than some other snacks. "I have to say that I really do not expect to see a significant improvement in consumer confidence in the near term in the U.S.," Van de Put says. (jesse.newman@wsj.com)
