AI Can Help Power-Hungry Data Centers Consume Power More Efficiently -- Market Talk

1340 ET - Data centers increasingly need electricity to run artificial intelligence systems, but AI itself can help them use that electricity more efficiently, says Josh Brumberger, CEO of Utilidata. The Providence, R.I.-based startup developed a modified version of a Nvidia AI chip that can be installed inside electrical equipment and measure power flow at its connection to the grid. Data centers are one potential user of Utilidata's systems, which would enable them to automatically adjust their power supplies to their needs, making reserve power capacity less necessary, Brumberger says. "The more information you can extract, and the more local AI can [be], the more confidence you could have to use more of the provisioned power for compute versus reserve."
