SINGAPORE: The first results have been announced in Singapore's General Election - the first electoral test for Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) has won several single-seat wards, including Radin Mas, Marymount, Queenstown, Bukit Gombak and Potong Pasir. It has also taken a number of GRCs, including Mr Wong's constituency of Marsiling-Yew Tee, Holland-Bukit Timah and Chua Chu Kang.
Sample counts earlier released by the Elections Department showed the PAP leading in most constituencies, including battlegrounds like Punggol GRC, West Coast-Jurong West GRC, East Coast GRC and Bukit Panjang SMC.
The Workers' Party (WP) leads in Aljunied GRC, Sengkang GRC and Hougang SMC, according to sample counts.
In the closest contests of the night so far, PAP's Ng Chee Meng leads WP's Andre Low 52 per cent to 48 per cent in Jalan Kayu SMC. The ruling party's Poh Li San is leading the Singapore Democratic Party's (SDP) Chee Soon Juan 53 per cent to 47 per cent in Sembawang West SMC.
