Activist Filings
Paramount Global (PARA) Gamco Investors raised its stake in the media firm to 4,824,174 shares. Gamco purchased 70,924 Paramount Global shares from Feb. 25 through April 23, 2025, at per share prices ranging from $21.80 to $22.87, offset by the sale of 60,761 shares from Feb. 25 to April 23 at $22.15 to $22.75.
Paramount announced a definitive agreement with Skydance in early July to merge in a deal valued at more than $8 billion. However, Gamco has raised concerns over the fairness of the merger to minority shareholders.
On April 23, Gamco filed a press release on Operation Fishbowl, noting that the Delaware Chancery Court found that the Gabelli Value 25 Fund "has stated and proved a credible basis to suspect wrongdoing" by Paramount. Operation Fishbowl is being pursued by Gamco to ensure transparency in disclosing what National Amusements, controlled by Shari Redstone, will receive for its shares of the issuer.
Following the latest activity, Gamco owns 11.9% of Paramount Global's outstanding stock. Shares have gained about 11% in value since the start of this year.
Increases in Holdings
Mid Penn Bancorp $(MPB)$ General American Capital raised its stake in the Harrisburg, Pa.--based regional bank to 1,805,713 shares. General American did so through the purchase of 175,650 Mid Penn Bancorp shares from April 14 through April 24, 2025, at per share prices ranging from $24.50 to $28.02.
Following the latest purchases, General American owns 9.3% of Mid Penn Bancorp's outstanding stock. Shares of Mid Penn Bancorp have gained just 3% since the start of this year.
Decreases in Holdings
Alphatec Holdings $(ATEC)$ L-5 Healthcare Partners reduced its stake in the medical technology company to 7,201,158 shares. L-5 Healthcare did so through the sale of 1,738,540 Alphatec shares from Feb. 24 through April 23, 2025, at per share prices ranging from $9.25 to $11.48.
Following the latest sales, L-5 Healthcare continues to own 4.96% of Alphatec's outstanding stock, placing it below the 5% threshold which would require it to report further Alphatec purchases or sales. Shares of Alphatec have gained roughly 21.2% since the start of 2025.
Canadian National Railway $(CNI)$ TCI Fund Management lowered its stake in the transportation and logistics company to 26,166,798 shares. TCI Fund did so through the sale of 1,200,634 Canadian National Railway shares from April 8 through April 29, 2025, at per share prices ranging from $130.81 to $136.67, and offset those sales through the purchase of 468,354 shares from April 1 to April 3 at $138.33 to $143.61.
Following the latest activity, TCI Fund continues to own 4.2% of Canadian National Railway's outstanding stock, placing it below the 5% threshold that would require it to report further sales. Shares have lost roughly 4.9% since the beginning of 2025.
