Electric-car company Polestar Automotive is recalling Polestar 2 models sold in the U.S. due to problems with the rearview camera, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Friday.

The agency said the camera image may not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse, reducing the driver's view and increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall--which is estimated to affect 100% of 27,816 Polestar 2 models built between 2021 and 2025--comes after the Swedish company earlier this week delayed filing its annual financial report and paused financial guidance due to the uncertainty surrounding U.S. import tariffs.

NHTSA said Polestar identified a synchronization error between the vehicles' parking assist camera and dashboard "infotainment" unit and a synchronization error in the video receiving hardware in the unit. It said customers may see a "Camera is temporarily unavailable" message instead of the rear view when the gear selector is placed in reverse.

Dealers will update the vehicle software, free of charge. Vehicles included in the recall that were repaired as part of a recall last year involving a problem with software could prevent the rearview camera image from displaying will need to have the new fix completed, the agency said.

Polestar on Wednesday said it filed a notice with the Securities and Exchange Commission asking for more time to work on its 2024 annual report. It is still targeting compound annual retail sales volume growth of 30% to 35% for 2025 to 2027, but said it suspended financial guidance for this year given current uncertainty about international tariffs and government regulations.
