LG Display (KRX:034220) verified the mass-production readiness of blue phosphorescent OLED panels, the display panel maker said Friday.

The development follows eight months of joint development with the Universal Display Corporation and overcame a decades-old challenge in commercializing blue phosphorescence, which requires the most energy of the three primary colors, according to the release.

LG Display's new panels reduce power consumption by 15% by using a hybrid two-stack Tandem OLED structure, it said.
