Philippine GDP Growth Could Weaken in 2H Amid Trade Uncertainties -- Market Talk

0910 GMT - The Philippines's GDP growth could weaken in 2H as trade uncertainties and challenges drag the global economy, HSBC Global Research's Aris Dacanay says. "We think the upcoming headwinds will be tough," the economist for Asean writes in a report. Exports of goods are expected to slow as tariffs cascade across the globe, he says. But compared with other Asean economies, the Philippines will be relatively better off, given its robust domestic levers, he says. The Philippines could easily support its domestic economy to make up for the slack in trade, and it is geared to do so through monetary policy, he adds. HSBC forecasts the economy to grow 5.6% this year. (amanda.lee@wsj.com)
