Exchange-Traded Funds Decline, US Equities Mixed After Midday

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV declined. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.3%.

US equity indexes traded mixed after midday Monday amid gains in most government bond yields and a surge in gold futures.

Energy

IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) lost about 1.5% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell fractionally; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was down 0.2% and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) marginally higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was down 0.8%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) dipped 0.5%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell less than 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 0.3%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), rose 0.8%.

Commodities

Crude oil fell 2.2%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) lost 2.4%. Natural gas shed 1.9%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 2.7%.

Gold advanced 2.4% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was up 2.4%. Silver edged up 0.8%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) climbed 0.9%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell fractionally; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) was marginally higher and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) declined 0.1%.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) slipped 0.7%; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) gained 0.03%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 0.2%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) moved 0.1% lower, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also eased lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) dropped 0.2%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) rose 0.4%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) was up 0.4% and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) rose 0.5%.
