1114 GMT - Lenders Barclays and Standard Chartered were urged by a group of shareholders to set financing targets for the renewable energy sector at their AGMs this week. The group of investors together sit on hundreds of billions of pounds in assets under management and are coordinated by ShareAction, a nonprofit focused on responsible investing. While banks have taken positive steps in setting broad sustainable finance targets, they aren't yet providing a clear strategy on how to specifically fund the sectors and technologies at the forefront of the energy transition, campaign manager Kelly Shields says. "This is why investors are calling for Barclays to set a funding target for the renewable energy sector, and for Standard Chartered to publish a plan on how it will finance more renewable power in markets in the Global South," she says.
