Dole posted a smaller profit as revenue ticked down slightly in its latest quarter.

The Dublin-based agricultural company logged net income of $38.9 million, or 41 cents a share, compared with $70.1 million, or 74 cents a share, in the prior-year period.

Dole said the bottom-line decrease was primarily due to the benefit of an exceptional net gain on the disposal of the Progressive Produce business in the prior period.

Stripping out certain one-time items, earnings came in at 35 cents a share.

Revenue edged down to $2.1 billion from $2.12 billion.

Revenue in the fresh fruit-segment increased more than 6.5% to $878.1 million due to higher volumes of bananas sold worldwide, as well as higher pricing of pineapples and plantains around the world.
