Walmart Expects Tariff-Tied Price Hikes to Flow Gradually to Shelves -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

1009 ET - Walmart will raise prices to pass on higher costs from the tariff war, but won't do so all at once. CEO Doug McMillon says on a call with analysts that the process will happen gradually as it strategizes when to import items relative to their then-current tariff levels. The retailer already saw some cost inflation in April and through May, and more near-term hikes may be seen on seasonal items like back-to-school products that can't wait for tariff negotiations to provide relief, the CEO says. Walmart is being mindful of keeping grocery prices in check, knowing that consumers are sick of it after years of food inflation, the CEO says. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
