Soros's Fund Places New Bets On Nvidia And A SpaceX Rival, Sells Off Super Micro Stake

Billionaire investor George Soros's investment fund placed new bets on satellite maker AST SpaceMobile Inc., a SpaceX competitor, and on Nvidia Corp., while selling stakes in high-flying Super Micro Computer Inc. and other big tech names in the quarter that ended March 31, according to a securities filing late Thursday.

Besides the new stakes in AST SpaceMobile $(ASTS)$ and Nvidia $(NVDA)$, Soros Fund Management LLC, the investment firm and family office linked to the billionaire philanthropist, also disclosed fresh investments in JPMorgan Chase & Co. $(JPM)$ and in bitcoin miner Cipher Mining Inc. (CIFR).

Securities regulators require all institutional investment managers holding more than $100 million in certain securities to periodically disclose their positions in filings known as 13-Fs.

The filings, albeit a snapshot of investments on the final day of the quarter, offer a window into a firm's stock and ETF holdings at quarter-end and into some of their possible strategies.

The Soros fund also beefed up its position in Amazon.com Inc. $(AMZN)$ by about 30%, nearly quadrupled its stake in Fedex Corp. $(FDX)$ and bet bigger on First Solar Inc. $(FSLR)$, increasing its stake in the solar-panel maker ninefold.

It also more than doubled its position in UnitedHealth Group Inc. $(UNH)$, which is reportedly under a criminal investigation into its Medicare practices.

Among the companies that, for now, ended their run with the fund were Airbnb Inc. $(ABNB)$, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. $(BABA)$ and Boeing Co. $(BA)$. Soros Fund Management sold off its stakes in those three companies.

Not only did Soros sell its stake in Super Micro $(SMCI)$, the fund also sold off its holdings of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. $(TSM)$.

Meanwhile, filings showed Thursday that Stanley Druckenmiller's Duquesne fund added to its TSMC holdings.
