Barclays has named Avinash Thakur as the new head of investment banking for Asia-Pacific, as Vanessa Koo retires from the position after 15 years with the British bank.
Thakur, a veteran banker with nearly three decades under his belt, will take on the new role, effectively immediately, and will be based in Hong Kong, according to a memo seen by The Wall Street Journal. A Barclays spokesperson confirmed the memo's content.
Thakur was most recently Barclays's head of capital markets financing in the region, and has previously led various parts of the financing franchise in Asia.
In his new role, Thakur will work closely with the investment banking management team to drive focus into client origination and deliver specialized solutions to clients.
The Asia-Pacific region has generated strong returns for the bank and remains an important part of Barclays's global operations, according to the memo.
