New orders for Xiaomi's (HKG:1810) SU7 electric sedan slumped 55% in April from March amid a growing consumer uproar, The Standard reported Wednesday, citing analysts at Deutsche Bank.
The trend continued in May, with 13,500 orders in the first two weeks of the month, compared with 23,000 orders in the second week of March alone, the report said.
Consumer anxiety over the brand began when an SU7 figured in a fatal car crash in China, the report said.
The crash triggered widespread public discussion regarding the safety features offered by Xiaomi, while the Chinese government began tightening marketing regulations over such features, The Standard said.
