Investors Turn Cautious Ahead of U.S. Inflation Data -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
05-13

0706 GMT - After a day of strong gains on equity markets following news of the U.S. and China slashing very high levies on each other's exports, investors turn more cautious as they await U.S. inflation data due at 1230 GMT, London Capital Group managing director Matt Basi says in a note. Concerns about tariffs causing inflation remain and could limit scope for U.S. interest-rate cuts. Markets are likely to come under selling pressure after the data as the U.S. tries to balance "the political demand for growth with lingering inflationary concerns", Basi says. U.S. stock futures point to a weaker open while the pan-European Stoxx Europe 600 index trades only just in positive territory at the European open. (miriam.mukuru@wsj.com)
