The Transportation and Justice departments dropped a lawsuit against Southwest Airlines that accused the airline of overstuffing its schedule with flights it can't operate on-time.

Government lawyers on Friday filed a motion to dismiss the case in San Francisco federal court. The suit was filed in the waning days of the Biden administration and was part of an effort to probe airlines over whether they were misleading passengers by setting unrealistic schedules with chronic delays. The suit centered on two flights that the government alleged experienced persistent delays for months.

The airline and the Transportation Department didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Southwest said earlier this year that it was disappointed by the suit and that claims cited were "simply not credible."
