Target Earnings, Housing Data: What to Watch Next Week -- WSJ

Walmart warned this week that tariffs are going to force it to raise some of its everyday low prices. Other retailers including Home Depot, Target and Lowe's will be under the spotlight this coming week for more clues on their pricing plans. Meanwhile, housing data toward the end of the week will give the latest read on what has been a difficult spring selling season so far.

Here's what to look for:

Monday, May 19

-- Fed Speaker: Federal Reserve Vice Chair Philip Jefferson is due to speak at 8:45 a.m.

-- Economic Data: European inflation data is due, as are leading economic indicators in the U.S.

Tuesday, May 20

-- Earnings $(AM)$: Home Depot

-- Economic Data: Canadian inflation data, expected at 8:30 a.m.

-- Earnings (PM): Palo Alto Networks, Toll Brothers

-- Fed Speaker: Fed governor Adriana Kugler is due to speak at 5 p.m.

Wednesday, May 21

-- Earnings: Target, Lowe's and TJX report results, all before the bell.

-- Economic Data: U.K. inflation numbers for April.

Thursday, May 22

-- Economic Data: Existing home sales are due at 10 a.m. Also expected are preliminary Purchasing Managers Index $(PMI.UK)$ data for manufacturing and services.

-- Earnings (AM): Analog Devices, Ralph Lauren

-- Earnings (PM): Intuit

Friday, May 23

-- Economic Data: New home sales are due at 10 a.m.

-- Fed Speaker: Fed governor Lisa Cook is due to speak at noon.
