The Hong Kong and China Gas Company or Towngas' (HKG:0003) green methanol project is the first recipient of the TÜV SÜD Carbon Footprint Verification, it said Wednesday.

Towngas' project converts biomass and municipal waste into green methanol using its proprietary technology, the gas company said.

Green methanol emits fewer greenhouse gases compared with traditional fossil fuels, and can be used in ships and other vehicles, the report said.

The gas is produced in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China.
