Taiwan's Asustek Computer (TPE:2357) plans to expand its artificial intelligence PC business in Japan, calling it a key market for 2025, co-CEO S.Y. Hsu told Nikkei Asia.
The company launched Microsoft's Copilot+ powered laptops and its own AI tools for media management, claiming over 30% global market share in the segment, the report said.
The Zenbook Sora, released in Japan in February, targets mobile users and starts at 170,000 yen. Asus aims to align with Japan's demand for high-value-added products, Nikkei quoted Hsu as saying.
Asus, with 1,000 employees focused on AI, is developing in-house software to support adoption, the report said.
The company is also monitoring possible US tariffs under Trump, stockpiling two quarters' worth of inventory, Nikkei noted. Tariffs could lead to 5% to 10% price hikes, it added.
