SoftBank Group (TYO:9984) founder Masayoshi Son has proposed a joint US-Japan sovereign wealth fund to make significant investments in American technology and infrastructure, according to the Financial Times report on May 25.
While this innovative concept has been discussed at high political levels in both Washington and Tokyo, including directly between Son and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, it has not yet become a formal proposal, added the report.
Son's team suggests this initiative could serve as a model for other nations looking to forge closer investment ties with the US, the report said.
