Market Chatter: United Airlines Expects Lower Ticket Prices Through Summer

United Airlines (UAL) expects ticket prices to be slightly lower than expected for the spring and summer seasons, Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Nocella told Bloomberg Friday in an interview.

Despite the expected dip in prices, Nocella forecasts a "very busy" summer with aircraft operating at full capacity. The most popular international destinations for United this summer are Japan and southern Europe, with Nocella even expressing uncertainty about having enough seats to meet the demand for travel to Japan, the news outlet said.

Outbound travel from the US is robust and is more than compensating for a "small drop off" in demand for flights into the US from Canada and other countries, Nocella told Bloomberg.

United Airlines is also looking to expand its presence at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. However, flying capacity at all three major New York City-area airports, including JFK, is currently constrained by runway limits, Nocella said.

United Airlines didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
