Peloton Interactive is getting in on the resale market for its bikes and fitness equipment with its own proprietary marketplace.
The connected fitness company's new platform, Repowered, launched Tuesday and allows customers to list their "pre-loved Peloton pieces," according to the website. The ability to purchase listed items will be rolled out soon, Peloton said.
The launch sees Peloton trying to get in on the resale market for its equipment, which became immensely popular after Covid-19 lockdowns kicked up in 2020 but saw demand tumble as the pandemic waned.
Peloton states on its website that it doesn't endorse any particular selling platform for its bikes, but does acknowledge that its customers use Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. The startup Trade My Stuff specializes in reselling used Peloton bikes with what it calls white-glove delivery and setup.
Right now, Repowered is only available to prospective resellers in Boston, New York City and Washington D.C. A spokesperson for Peloton said the company is looking to roll the platform out nationwide in the coming months.
When customers go to sell their products on Repowered, Peloton will recommend a listing price based on the item's condition and original value, though customers will ultimately set their own price, the company said.
Sellers will receive 70% of the sale price in cash and also get a discount code for purchases of new Peloton products. Buyers will receive a summary of the product's history, a protection policy, a lower used-equipment activation fee and options for a delivery service, according to a Peloton spokesperson.
Repowered was developed and is operated by Archive, which is known for making resale programs for apparel and footwear brands.
