BlockBeats News, June 3rd, the Ethereum Foundation announced a partial staff reduction and a reorganization of its research and development team, renaming the department to "Protocol" to focus on the core challenges of protocol design. This adjustment aims to address continued community criticism of the Foundation's management and strategic direction. Some voices have warned that failing to address key technical issues could threaten Ethereum's position as an industry technology leader.
The Foundation stated that the restructured Protocol team will work around three main priorities: scaling the underlying Ethereum network, advancing the blobspace extension in the data availability strategy, and improving user experience.
In the announcement, the Foundation mentioned that "some research team members will no longer continue in their roles" and encouraged other teams to absorb these talents. The number of layoffs was not disclosed. Furthermore, the Foundation stated that the reorganized team will focus on enhancing upgrade timelines, technical documentation, and research transparency. Co-executive director Hsiao-Wei Weng expressed on social media platform X that she hopes the new structure will drive the core projects forward more efficiently.
