3D Systems (DDD) said Tuesday it is working with researchers from Penn State University and Arizona State University on two National Aeronautics and Space Administration-backed projects to create advanced thermal management systems for spacecraft.
Temperature swings in space can damage spacecraft components, so these projects aim to develop lighter, more efficient cooling solutions using 3D printing technology, the company said.
The first project focused on lightweight titanium heat pipes, and the second one was for developing shape-memory alloy radiators, the company added.
Shares of 3D Systems rose 7.8% in recent trading activity.
