The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is gearing up for significant upgrades that could add exciting new features to the platform. According to a recent tweet by a Vet, a dUNL validator, Token Escrows is coming soon to XRPL, expanding real world utility.
Up until now, only XRP could be escrowed on the ledger; however, this is set to change, as with the "XLS-85d: Token enabled escrows" amendment, assets such as Ripple USD stablecoin RLUSD, tokenized real-world assets and meme coins can be escrowed as well.
Multi-Purpose Token (MPT) support is also anticipated, which is being hailed as a major enhancement. According to Vet, "MPT support is a great addition."
Multi-purpose tokens (MPTs) are a more compact and flexible type of fungible token. MPTs would enable users to take advantage of ready-to-use tokenization features with a few lines of code. Combined with IOU support, this feature might significantly boost tokenization and interoperability across the ledger.
In May, RippleX software engineer Mayukha Vadari hinted at a slew of new features coming shortly to XRP Ledger.
As previously reported, the Batch amendment pull request (PR) has officially been merged into the XRP Ledger (XRPL) codebase, which means the feature will be included in the upcoming Rippled release.
XLS-56 Batch Transactions will allow users to batch transactions using the XLS-56d specification and support all transaction types with a limit of eight. The amendment also supports atomic swaps.
The upcoming rippled 2.5.0 release is anticipated in June.
