June 6 - (The Insurer) - Former Hippo executive David Wechsler is leaving his role as principal at OMERS Ventures after more than three years to join a telecommunications tech firm, sources familiar with the move told The Insurer.
San Francisco-based Wechsler founded the weekly insurtech webinar series Insurtech RAP, which routinely featured prominent founders, venture investors and others with links to insurtech. He has been involved in both insurtech and fintech companies including Clearcover, Joyn and Foresight.
A spokesperson for OMERS Ventures did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Ontario-based OMERS is one of Canada's largest defined benefit pension plans, and its ventures arm manages more than C$2 billion for a multi-stage generalist fund that invests in Series A to Series C firms, with checks up to $25 million.
Before OMERS Ventures, Wechsler spent a year with homeowners insurtech Hippo as vice president for growth initiatives, having previously worked for Comcast where he led Internet of Things (IoT) business initiatives with a focus on insurtech and smart home applications.
Wechsler was previously CEO of Radiator Labs, which builds point-of-use, retrofit technology and a supporting IoT management platform for steam radiator-based heating systems. Radiator Labs rebranded to Kelvin in 2023.
