Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI has reached 3 million paying business users, up from 2 million in February, as demand for its enterprise artificial intelligence tools continues to grow, CNBC reported Wednesday, citing an interview with OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap.

OpenAI expects to generate annual revenue of $12.7 billion in 2025, CNBC said, citing a person familiar with the matter. The company last September was forecasting $3.7 billion in revenue and an annual loss of $5 billion for 2024, the report said citing a person close to the company.

OpenAI's tools are being adopted across a wide range of industries, including heavily-regulated sectors like finance and health care, and companies such as Lowe's (LOW), Morgan Stanley (MS) and Uber Technologies (UBER) are among its business clients, according to Lightcap and OpenAI.

OpenAI is adding nine new enterprise clients each week and aims to sustain this growth, Lightcap said.

OpenAI didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
