BlockBeats reports that on June 16, according to CoinDesk, UK-based startup Optalysys, which focuses on secure computing, announced the launch of what it claims is the world’s first blockchain-specific server capable of large-scale data processing without decryption.
The company's newly launched LightLocker node is a server utilizing Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) technology. This is a mathematical method that allows computations to be performed directly on encrypted data without breaking the encryption itself.
Over the past year, several companies in the cryptocurrency space have raised funds and explored the applications of Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE). Optalysys states that its server hardware is specifically designed for blockchain encryption and offers a more cost-effective alternative to expensive and inefficient GPU systems, reducing energy consumption by 40%.
Headquartered in Leeds, England, Optalysys was founded in 2013 by CEO Nick New and CTO Robert Todd. The company completed a £21 million (approximately $28 million) Series A funding round in July 2023.
