U.S. Natural Gas Futures Make Moderate Gains -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
2025/06/13

0948 ET - U.S. natural gas futures are higher on a pickup in expected weather-driven demand, while showing muted reaction to the flare-up in Middle East turmoil. "While long-term risk premiums may eventually rise, currently ample supply may buffer Nymex gas futures from near-term upside," Eli Rubin of EBW Analytics says in a note. What could have an impact on natural gas is the potential closing of the Strait of Hormuz through which Qatari LNG exports flow, he says. But "gaping spreads between Nymex natural gas and overseas LNG prices means that the U.S. is exporting every molecule it can: higher LNG prices will not increase export levels." Nymex natural gas is up 1.3% at $3.536/mmBtu. (anthony.harrup@wsj.com)
