Eastern Platinum was hit by a cyberattack that affected its internal information-technology systems.

The Vancouver, British Columbia, miner of platinum group metals said Monday it detected a cybersecurity incident and took immediate containment measures to protect its network and data. It has since been working with cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident's scope and undertake necessary remedial action, the company said.

Eastplats said its business operations have continued without disruption, however certain files related to its internal affairs were disclosed without authorization by third parties on a restricted part of the internet, it said. The company said it is reviewing these files to ensure ongoing compliance with its legal obligations and to safeguard its commercial interests.

The incident has been reported to the appropriate authorities, the South Africa-focused company said. All of Eastplats's properties are situated on the western limb and eastern limb of South Africa's Bushveld complex, a region that hosts the majority of the world's PGM-bearing ore.
