0658 GMT - China's May retail sales were likely boosted by consumer worries that local governments may call for a pause on subsidies, Jefferies analysts say in a research note. The data beat expectations, thanks to consumer electronics trade-in policies, an early start of midyear promotion, and positive sentiment from the pause in U.S. tariffs, they say. The next catalyst will be the results of China's mid-year shopping festival and whether the trade-in policy will continue in 2H, they add. Jefferies likes leading players such as Kweichow Moutai and Midea Group, and smaller player DPC Dash, Domino's Pizza's exclusive master franchisee in China. (sherry.qin@wsj.com)
