Peloton Interactive has named Megan Imbres chief marketing officer, making her the fourth marketing leader at the connected fitness company since 2020.

Imbres, who most recently served as managing director of the market communications company Apple Marcom LA, succeeds Lauren Weinberg, who left earlier this year after 16 months in the role.

Peloton has been cutting its marketing and advertising spending as it tries to adapt to reduced demand after a burst of popularity early in the Covid-19 pandemic. Marketing and advertising expenses fell to $61 million in the fiscal third quarter ended in March, down from $113 million the year before.

The marketing reduction is part of an effort to acquire new subscribers more cost efficiently, the company said in May as it reported its third-quarter results. They included a net loss of $47.7 million, an improvement on the $167.3 million net loss reported in the quarter a year prior.

Peloton also created the role of chief technology officer to focus on artificial intelligence efforts, it said on Thursday.

It promoted Francis Shanahan, who had been senior vice president of connected fitness software, to the post.

Shanahan will lead Peloton's engineering and technical teams and manage customer-facing AI initiatives. He joined Peloton in 2021 and has led the company's software engineering team.
