Thousands Assemble at Texas Capitol After Threats

A massive crowd of protesters against President Trump filled the Texas state Capitol in Austin, hours after the grounds were evacuated for what authorities called a "credible threat" against state legislators. State police said shortly before the event began that they had arrested a suspect in connection with those threats.

Some of the crowd's messages were as much aimed at Texas Gov. Greg Abbott as at Trump. Robert Martin, a 75-year-old Army veteran, painted a sign reading "This Protest is Peaceful. Don't be Abbott's tool" after the governor ordered the National Guard to be on standby for protests across the state. "It seemed like an escalation to me," Martin said.
