Pratt & Whitney Canada, a subsidiary of RTX Corporation, has reached a significant milestone in the RTX Hybrid-Electric Flight Demonstrator project by successfully testing its integrated propulsion system and batteries to full power. This marks the first battery-powered operation of the system, which incorporates a highly efficient thermal engine paired with a 1 megawatt electric motor developed by Collins Aerospace, another RTX business. The project is part of RTX's commitment to hybrid-electric propulsion, aiming for a 30% improvement in fuel efficiency for regional turboprops. Pratt & Whitney Canada is collaborating with AeroTEC, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada, GKN Aerospace, and Ricardo on this innovative initiative.
